So, in the New Year spirit, I give you:
Things I learned this year (that fit into quippy soundbites):
Things I learned this year (that fit into quippy soundbites):
- You will learn more, and have your outlook changed more, in classes you randomly signed up for because they fit into your schedule than you will in those degree requirements you were sure would actually furnish you with useful information.
- There are some things that you can't make better, you can only stop making them worse.
- I will never be able to only eat one piece of pizza. Ever.
- No matter the prevailing wisdom of our generation, shared pop-culture references are not enough to build a relationship on.
- I have been letting life pass me by because I keep expecting there to be some grand sign that my "real life" is about to start. I wanted starter guns, or fireworks, or a giant voice from above intoning that, "THIS IS YOUR DESTINY." Like so many, I have been ignoring the simple truth that life is what happens while you're busy making other plans. I want to stop treating time like it's an inexhaustible resource.
- I am really, really, really bad at sharing any part of my life with another person. It gives me hives. If only I could have realized and accepted this years ago, it would have saved me, and some of those around me, a lot of trouble. I am, by nature, a cranky old hermit, and I don't really see that changing in the near future. I need to learn to be okay with that, rather than trying to constantly shove myself into a mold that doesn't fit because I think it's what's expected of me.
