LITTLE GIRL SKIPPING DOWN THE SIDEWALK
Sometime ago (in the late winter, early spring of 1970) I was riding the bus,
and I looked out the window and I saw this very angel little girl skipping
down the sidewalk, apparently on her way home from school. I went home and I
wrote this poem about her ...
little girl skipping down the sidewalk
hopping and sliding on the ice for fun, such a
small packet of innocent, human joy she loves
herself she loves the world a soul that is a blackboard
of feelings eyes looking upward to adults expecting
kindness Give it! Caress this protect this
chirp
