My Christmas Poem
I know it's a bit early but ---
Silent Night, 2003
If I had it in my power, this is what I would give
To you the one that I love and everyone in this benighted world
Where hatred and violence and intolerable cruelty reign,
hardly subdued and freedom is shackled and chained
Where children scream and cry for lost mothers
And mothers cry for lost and brutalized children
Where bombs rain down from the sky like deadly snow;
I would, if I could, give you a reverse Pandora's Box
that when you open it
Beautiful love, love for everyone
And peace, lovely indescribable peace would
Every heart and body and soul fill
There would be a world full of joy! And beauty
And an infinity of laughter and every
Tummy would be full, no more hunger or disease
Every child, man and woman would be indescribably
Utterly happy
And the loveless would be loved and love
At this Christmas time of the year of our Lord, 2003
I would give you and the world a gorgeous present;
A box full of an Eternity of Silent, Holy, Peaceful
Nights--and Love, Love, Sweet, a Plethora of Sweet
Delicious Cherries of Love for Everyone to Eat
And Fill their Empty Hearts and Spirits with Divine
Sweet Contentment and Bubbling Laughing Peace
And Happiness, Happiness! Happiness!
MERRY CHRISTMAS
