It's not selfish if you are having happiness enter your life. You can not succumb to the depressive nature of a crisis. However, I do not agree that it's easy to just go on with your life even if you don't live there.
I've been on the verge of tears EVERY day, probably even cried most days. But that's just because I'm from Jefferson parish and my family fleed and were without water, electricity, or gas for a few days. I wasn't able to talk to them but now things are ok.
TV makes things worse! I live in FLorida and Katrina hit us first and left us without power until last Wednesday. I didn't have tv until we stayed in a motel on Tuesday, all I watched was 30 minutes and I was done with the updates, it was horrific. The whole ordeal has been horrific, the hurricane, the reaction time, the fucking ignorant assholes with guns raping and stealing, and the aftermath now.
We have to wait.
But just try to be happy with the life you have now, be grateful, and that's all you owe. Not every moment of your day, just a few.
