Today an acquaintance whom I haven't seen in a few months asked me how my summer was. I said, it was okay. What did I do during it? Not a lot, just sort of chilled. Did I go anywhere? No, not really. Oh. Right.
But that's kind of exactly the way I wanted summer to be. From September until May things are so crazy that taking a few months to do not a whole lot are really necessary for my mental well-being.
Case in point: it's September (surprise!), there's been exactly one week of classes and I'm already busy as hell. The way my program works is I study for a big test for six months, write it, and then I can start on a dissertation. The six months started at the beginning of the month, and it's a grueling schedule. I promised myself that I would take off one day a week, that being Sunday (not because of any religious regions, but because I'm usually hungover from Saturday's festivities).
So with my day off I decided to help out some friends and play a softball tournament. All day. From 10 am to 5 pm. And with all of us lying somewhere on the stereotypical nerd spectrum, we didn't do so great. But we had fun.
With my evening I am going to head out to meet up with some friends for beer and tacos at this hipster place to soak up what's left of patio season.
