Thor: The Dark World

The guy with the long blonde hair and his evil brother with the long black hair are back, this time to fight a different kind of evil, which for some reason involves Natalie Portman and Kat Dennings. This movie at the same time both recognizes how awesome it is and recognizes how ridiculous it is, which makes it more awesome. Although...

Where to start?

Six months ago I got sick. It seemed like a really bad flu that wouldn't go away. I was laid out on the couch for days, until I finally managed to drag myself to a doctor. I hadn't been outside in so long that the cold February air compressed my lungs to the point that I could barely breathe. The...

I hope you find an answer. The worst part is not knowing what is causing the pain. For me it was where the hell did I get blood clots in my lungs and die. A year later after all the blood tests, ct scans, X-rays, breathing in poison to see if the clots were gone etc. I was found to have a genetic blood disorder. I think the worst part was not knowing and wondering what else? What will happen to me? The fact I had blood clots ironically exposed the fact I had a severe case of endometriosis. There went another 2 years of doctor visits, prodding and checking, and finally a second successful surgery. Having to deal with the genetic blood disorder and realizing I had to change my diet, no contact sports when I'm warfarin (forever taking my rat poison) I realized I was lucky to be alive. I always told myself whatever is thrown at me I would be strong enough to deal with it. It made me a stronger person. A lot of medical crap over the past 3 years but today, today I feel good. Having a positive outlook is the most important thing you can have when it comes to your health. Things can be worse, and if they are worse it is your time to either let it bring you down or to become an inspiration to others. Know that you will get an answer one day. It may be complete or missing parts but you'll be able to deal with it.   Smile and don't let it get the better of you.  I promise you I had  to take the strongest pills, injections and go through things a "normal" 25-year-old doesn't usually have to. If I had a chance to go back.... I'd go through it again because it made me who I am today. A better person who strives to make the world a bit better and a hell of a lot funnier for those around me. PS I found keeping dark sense of humour somehow got me through things as well.  It was better than no humour that's for sure. Let us know how you are doing. I'm here to support!

I suppose? I thought it had actually been longer than it has been, but it's only been about 10 months since the last time. What a terrible sentence.

Anyway, I couldn't stay away, I suppose. More to come?

I can't offer German lessons, but just eat german chocolate cake, and hang out with german shepherds, and go to Frankenmeuth before you go. You're bound to absorb some of the culture.

And that cat is pretty damn cute

I would totally go!

Forgive me for the rambling incoherence that is guaranteed to be the content of this post. I just finished catching up with an old friend of mine, one of my favorite persons in this world, and alcohol was involved. I am trying to sober up even a small amount before sleeping, as I find it makes for a speedier recovery the next day. I am...

My mom is my favorite person, but there are a few others on the list. One of my brothers, one of my partners, an ex, the perpetual object of my unrequited love.
I suppose my preferences can't be contained in the number three.

I have definitely lurked the shit out of profs and TAs whose work I found particularly interesting, until I realized that this feature existed and I proceeded to feel like the ultimate creeper. Since I don't have an account, being on the inside you need to tell me exactly how much "who" information is provided. Does it say like "this one girl has read your paper on brownfields 35 times"? Life is so unfair, I just want to remain anonymous in my theory crushing.

Wednesday I gave a three-hour presentation of a chapter of my dissertation to my seminar. It was intense, and only moderately helpful. I spent the rest of the day grading.

On Thursday I woke up early to prepare my tutorials, which took the whole morning, followed by more grading, finishing up a scholarship application, and then fucking rocking the fuck out at my friend's...

Just got back reviews from the class I was teaching this summer. They were all positive! Which is awesome. It's enough to have to worry about producing good research; knowing that I'm capable of teaching a class and having the students actually like me is a relief.

My favorite comment of the bunch: "Nice hair and teaching." Can't make this stuff up...

So it seems that Orangeduck's 2011/2012 American Jamboree (you have those down in the States, right? Jamborees? Or maybe hoedowns? Hootenannys?... hootenanni? Anyway.) will continue even further west across the country. Here's how it's looking right now:

End of December: Washington, DC
Some time in March: Chicago, IL (I am so stoked for this, I heart Chicago)
Some time in April...

The typical tourist attractions: Pike Place Market, the Seattle underground tour, but then there's Alki beach, Jimi Hendrix's grave (which is technically in Renton) and Bruce and Brandon Lee's grave at Lakeview cemetery in Seattle. Umm......I love this city, so much to do

Capital Hill...um um....frack..I go to a lot of those typical places because they're actually places I like to go....hmmm

So apparently I'm teaching a class this summer at my university. This is the first time I've ever taught a course, and the enrollment is 150. Z. O. M. G. I'm going through a continuous cycle of excitement, terror, denial, and anticipation. That could just be caused, however, by the alarming amount of caffeine I've put in my system as I...

Ugh, Nicki Minaj, I just don't like you. I mean, what is that? I listened to your album, every single track. Never again.

Also, I love me some of this:

Oh Wu Tang, you're such a bunch of nerds.

Hello new friend! Sweet tunes you've posted here. I have to say I've never actually heard anything of Nicki Minaj, other than her verse on Kanye West's Monster. Which was fucking wicked.
