Ok, so its definitly time for an update, first for my trip to D.C.
After much much much confusion, three of my friends and I drove all night to D.C. We got to a friend of a friend's house in Falls Church Virginia, took an hour nap, and were off to ride the metro into the city- have I mentioned that it was my first time in D.C.? I LOVE THE METRO!!!
We got to McPherson Sqaure for the IMF/ Wold Bank protest, and I couldn't believe how complete I felt already, Being surrounded by a thousand people who feel like I do was just too amazing for words. There were radical cheerleaders and drummers and just all around passionate, motivated people rallying and marching to end globalization
Of course The March for Women's Lives was one hundred times bigger! What surprised me and excited me about that march was the huge variety of people there. Republicans for Choice, Catholics for Choice, Grandpas for Choice- you name it!! I teared up about a million times during the march and rally, but one of the most incredible moments came complimentary to Moby on stage with two other founders of MoveOn. org making "History's biggest march into history's biggest sing-along"
I just realized that I wrote a novel (which is why I tried to put off writing about this....but apparently I still have a ton to say) so I'm going to end this with our sing along song, that forever will remind me of this wonderful weekend.
"There's something happening here
And what it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I've got to beware
I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look, what's goin' down
There's battle lines are being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Are getting so much resistance from behind
Time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look, what's goin' down
What a field day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singin' songs and carryin' signs
Mostly say "hooray for our side"
It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look, what's goin' down
Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
Step outta line, the man come and take you away"
