E has a way to describe the kind of fatigue one feels at the end of the day. She calls it "being hit by the tired stick". Well, in that spirit, the tired stick descended early today.
I got up early today, ate a brief breakfast of blueberry flavored mini-wheats, then departed for the gym. After doing the cardio, I noticed within the first few lifts that my arms were very tired and sore. This means that tomorrow I need to take a one day break from weights and only do cardio. The cougar who stalked me yesterday was nowhere to be found today. Most women, I have discovered, are all about the tease and not so much about the follow-through.
Next came the grocery store. I'm going to make a coconut cream pie for meeting and the recipe required fresh coconut. Harvesting the coconut from the shell proved to be much more labor intensive then I had even imagined. I had to position both of the coconuts in a metal pan and hit them repeatedly with a hammer until they cracked open. The milk leaked out into the pan. After peeling away the outer skin with much effort, it came time to peel away the inner skin, which was almost as difficult to manage. Then I took a hand grater, and with much elbow grease, shredded several ounces worth of fresh coconut meat. I needed a cup for the recipe and both of them produced about two cups. The remaining shredded coconut went into the refrigerator.
Next it was time to cut the lawn, which, with the exception of one section, was full of weeds, not grass. Even so, it needed to be mowed. Nothing bores me as much as cutting the lawn. Before I exercised on a frequent basis, mowing the lawn was the only real exercise I got during the week, so I looked forward to it. Now I see it as just another chore that taxes my already sore muscles.
After taking a well-deserved shower, then and and only then was I able to get to job applications. Truthfully, I only found two for which I was qualified. Then again, most people are winding down for the week by Friday and I'm not terribly surprised to find that the pickings were slim today.
I am dog sitting again and he keeps barking and barking about nothing. I wish he would just shut up and lie down next to me like he was doing an hour ago.
