Okay so my lazy ass finally got around to uploading/downloading all the pics my wife and I took at Fanime 2014. So in case you missed out I'll give you a summary of the con.
Fanime Con is the largest anime convention in the San Francisco bay area and the third largest on the west coast. I've been going for the last four years, my wife and I have gone for the last three years and we brought our daughter the last two years. Every other year I bought a one day pass the day of con and regretted it. This year I would not make that mistake again and I bought weekend passes for all of us. I was also determined to make cosplays for all of us. Early in the year we decided since we are huge Sword Art Online fans that we would have a family SAO cosplay session! Well the best laid plans of mice and men and all that. By the first day of con my wife and daughter's costumes were still a bunch of fabric and accessory items lying about the house and my costume was only a concept image in my head. It took a lot of work overnight and during most of the day but I managed to get their cosplays done while I simply grabbed an older cosplay out of the closet I hadn't worn yet.
Left to right: Our daughter as Yui, my wife as Lady Sakuya from Sword Art Online and myself as Nightwing (pre-New 52).
Con day was beautiful, it was pretty warm outside but not oppressively hot like it is today. Still, not being able to wear sunglasses meant being outside pretty miserable pretty quick so we spent of the con indoors. We did manage to get some awesome outdoor shots though.
Me vs. Deathstroke!
This was supposed to be a picture of myself with two of Gotham City's Sirens but we suffered an epic photobomb with Deadpool.
Keep in mind the cosplay thing was only Saturday. Friday and Sunday we just wore our civvies.
Epic con food is meh.
On the agenda was only a couple of panels that we wanted to go to but we missed them both because we spent SO much time wandering back and forth between/around the dealer's hall and artist's alley we lost track of time and missed all of them. We all did get to meet Yaya Han but whilst in line we found out this would be the last year she would be attending Fanime. We were bummed about this because we love meeting her there every year. She's super awesome and thanks to "Heroes of Cosplay" she's also a tv star!
Yaya was super sweet and congratulated us on being a family in cosplay. She said it made her feel good when families support their children's cosplay habits.
So while we missed almost the entire convention we still had a lot of fun and of course got lots and lots of pictures and bought lots of swag. Mostly artwork. :)
All but a couple of the pictures (and the calender) we bought at Fanime. Next year I'll have to focus on models or toys or something like that because my wall space is pretty much nil at this point.
And of course I bought this little guy as well. I honestly thought he would be bigger but oh well. Next year we'll bring less money and spend more time in the game room and at panels. Assuming of course I get the holiday off which this year I didn't. I'm still pissed about that to be honest but shit happens. I'll get over it just in time for... SACANIME!!! My wife and I will be going to that con all by ourselves, possibly with hotel room. I have a feeling a little fetish is going to get thrown in with our cosplay. Especially once I finish this:
I am so NOT feminine. lol. Damn testosterone!
