As I stare down the barrel of probable rejection I'm left with a serious choice. What will I make if not "Shadows of the Bat?" Should I make more fan fiction from other titles? Lord knows I've got plenty of that kicking down the creativity door in the front of my brain. Titles I've admired since my youth like:
The Dirty Pair:
Transformers:
and of course the legendary Spiderman:
Now its not that I don't have a plan in place for if I get the green light I just need to be honest with myself. I have no mark on the comic industry whatsoever, I'm a total unknown even amongst webcomics. Over the next two years I hope to change that by going to comic conventions around the west coast and eventually the country but right now that's something I'm just going to have to accept. I've set my sights pretty high but even if Kevin Smith likes what I've done it may not be enough. After all his idea was also fan fiction.
So in the end green light or not I have to reflect on fan fiction and how I feel about it. If "Shadows of the bat" should go on to someone else should I continue to follow that path? I have original story ideas that I would rather share with you all but fan fiction really is a viable alternative. There's lots of it out there especially when it comes to comics. One of my favorite artists Stjepan Seijic once wrote on his journal that fan fiction is just work that hasn't been cannonized yet. If you don't know he works for Top Cow comics on such titles as Aphrotdite IX, Ravine, Cyber Force and was one of the artists that help create the venerable Witchblade. I've never considered writing fan fiction before but it might just be a good way for me to go.
