Loe convinced me to stay on SG for a little while longer. I guess that's fitting, as it was Loe's first photoset that got me to sign up as a member. smile

So hey - free stuff! The first five Suicide Girls to respond here and then email me their mailing addresses will get some copies of my comics mailed to them. You can email...

I thought you had gone, and somehow, I missed this entry in my bookmarks (which is why I'm visiting all my friends at the moment)
I'm glad you decided to stay because your entries are entertaining.

I don't think I'll be an SG member for too much longer... I have so many other sites and blogs, this one's been seriously falling by the wayside.

Anyway, you can find me here, all day long.

DMZ #2's first pages look great. Awesome cover. This is definately my favorite thing next to - possibly surpassing - Jenny One/Channel Zero (sorry if I got title wrong it's been a while). My favorite comics now are:
1. POWERS
2. DMZ
3. Wildcats - only cuz of Dustin Nguyen's artwork. That kid's sick!
4. Fables

Basically there's only a two good writers in comics I enjoy and can think of off the top of my head. You and Bendis. not to say there isn't more I respect and all. But if you and bendis stopped writing comics, and Ashley Wood stopped drawing them, I'd probably stop buying comics altogether.

YOU ROCK.

Hey Brian -
I dug DMZ # 1

Looking forward to seeing where it's going - is it ongoing monthly or limited? Love the idea of that setting not just in a western country but in this country.

I also enjoyed the 1st issue of local - i like the idea of 1-shots like that. I was surprised to see the asshole boyfriend in a Pixies shirt. Just didn't seem like asshole boyfriend music.

Anyways - I just popped into the comic group to see what was new and saw the DMZ post and was pleased that to find your profile.

I noticed that you're also credited as an artist on DMZ - were you inking/finishing/coloring? Or doing layouts?

I'm just getting started writing comics - I've got a six issue series called "The Last Christmas" from Image - it's about Santa Claus after the apocalypse. I'm going to post in the comics group once it gets closer. The art is by Rick Remender and Hilary Barta. After that I'm going to try and roll that into some other 4color work.

Enjoyed those 2 new books of yours - hope all is well and good luck with the two new books,
Gerry

Damn..I missed LOCAL...will have to rectify that.
But the first issue of DMZ has me looking forward to more smile

I was also wondering if you had any suggestions on what I might want to put into a portfolio if I was looking for something in illustration and/or comics.
What do they look for?

Thanks
-Chris-
ninjaprodigy:
Okay. Thanks.

Grabbed a flyer at a comic shop a week ago for a company that's trying to start up.
Sent an email, got a reply, hopefully get to do some sample pages from a script they'll send me.

One thing I was asked about that I hadn't thought of: What's a respectable page rate for an artist with no professional experience?

Just wanted to say hi since I didn't get to do so at SDCC (but I did grab three Jenny One pages while I was there). And thanks for good reads.

How many people here read comic books/graphic novels, either on a regular basis or casually?

If you don't read them, is there a reason why not? ("no reason" is an acceptable answer, btw)

thanks.

I read a bunch. I write some too. I've enjoyed alot of your work and am looking forward to local and DMZ.....
dontpooyourself:
I enjoy reading comics a whole lot. I have a bunch of comic tattoos spanning from Calvin and Hobbes and The Far Side to Grrl Scouts and Sin City. I picked up DMZ last wednesday, and was disappointed when my buddy Drew let me know that you had been in the shop on sunday, and I had missed it. I really enjoyed DMZ, but I was wondering if it had a predecessor. Maybe I'm just not too quick but the first issue seemed to kind of heave me right into the thick of things, without expaination as to why things were as they were. Was this purposely left up to the readers imagination, or will it be covered in future issues? Sorry, I know this is really long, so I'll stop pestering you. Keep up the good work!

Just about killed myself yesterday trying to complete an illustration for San Francisco's Bay Guardian... teach me to take on last minute illo jobs. Moneky head being dissected in a lab? NO PROBLEM! How hard can that be?

9 hours and six drafts later, I finally crawled into bed. Not really looking forward to the critique it's bound to get from the art director.

it coulda been worse. they coulda asked for TWO monkey heads......
h3athrow:
Dude, let us know when it runs. Assignments like that can kill. Yet you can rock. And we can tell you that. More comics and cartoon people should share their illo experiences. That work might be where the money is. Ans there may be ways to seek that money that don't suck.
