SO. this weekend was the bee's knees. i saw one of my favorite artists, Neko Case, live in concert. even though theres live music here everywhere, it's kind of rare that a really good act comes here. usually it's at one extreme like RASCAL FLATS AT ASSEMBLY ARENA! or "the monkey cowboys" some awful band who draw 15 people.
so yeah. good music. we made sure to get there quite early, so i was right up front, leaning against the stage. the venue's sound was kinda shit, but oh well. she was still aymayzing. she's probably the top vocal performer in indie music. it's really quite impressive to hear. and all her song structures are kind of unconventional and a lot more interesting than other dreck. she's an insanely good singer. if you dont believe me try really singing along to the new pornographers' "letter from an occupant." it's impossible.
i also thought it was kinda cool the way she was just kinda plainly dressed, wearing jeans, t-shirt, and a sweater. the show was music, which isnt always the case with female artists who feel pressured into doing vixen performances. it was also pretty cool to me that the dude's in her band looked like they were in their 50s, haha. oh and as you will see, neko looks good.
there was also considerable banter between each song between neko and the background vocalist. oh! and we were complimented on our singing. one quiet song, me and my friend were singing along. and the background singer heard us and was like "some good singing along in the front on that one" while looking at us. i was like, yessssssss.
oh and i couldnt help myself. i spent a bunch of money. i bought a t-shirt, old CD, and some buttons to put on my backpack next to my "another mother for choice" button.
yep, oh, and here's some candid video from the show, taken by some stranger.
