at the airport in tampa right now feeling utterly drained after spending some time with my family and godparents. mom, dad, and baby sis are headed back to DC while i'm here at the terminal awaiting my departure for LAX.
i wish i could feel better about the hugs and knowing glances that we've shared but the reality of it all is that i feel more helpless than ever. my grammy says that we've done more than we could ever know by making the trip out to see them but i know that there's more to be done.
my promise, my commitment to my godparents is to be a better godson. i stopped writing the family christmas newsletter years ago but its time that i start corresponding to them. in this day and age of electronic and digital communication, the simple act of putting pen to paper far surpasses the utility of the wifi connection i'm using or the buzzing celly in my pocket.
so i'll write. they want to know about my life in hollywood and my surf adventures so i'll describe that. i'll also write about the memories i have. how it meant so much to talk to my godfather after a tough game when i played football in high school. how i mysteriously caught the same fish twice when we fished the depths of the gulf of mexico. how they sat with me all night after i got a concussion in jr high because the doctor ordered that i not fall asleep.
all i need is time.
