been checking out lots of live shows lately.
last night was the trio medeski, martin, and wood. john medeski on multi dimensional time warping keys. billy martin conjures up rhythm on anything that can go thud, bang, or chsh. chris wood provides the dirt mcgurt on bass (both upright and guitar). you can check out a live spot mmw did on kcrw the other day here
last week was LA's finest duo the people under the stairs. double k was cool on the mic and the decks but thes one really brought it. all of their album recordings were re-tooled for the live show. i was super impressed with the way thes one put it all out there during their set. opening act giant panda lived up to the underground hype they've been receiving. keep your ear to the ground as giant panda should be getting more play as the word spreads.
on the horizon.. om records most prolific mark farina on halloween weekend. the following thursday is the roots aka the legendary 215 aka the best fucking live act in all of hip-hop. and the day after will be with mos def, talib, pharoah monch and my favorite lady mc jean grae.

My buddy eric always talked up people under the stairs, appartently he knows those guys. I still haven't had much of a chance to listen to their stuff.
