problem was I was in the middle of tattoo aftercare for my chest piece that is in process. What a pain in the ass! This was in the Marriot in Southfield, where there were multiple banquets going on. So I had to go into a busy public bathroom and into a stall and strip down to apply Aquaphor. The guy in the stall next to me must have wondered what the hell I was doing. Usually I have tattoo sessions on Tuesdays nights and I have to suffer through three days of awkwardness at work. Below is what I wrote up in the Tattoo Group re: aftercare about it:
*********
This dinner was for my wife's Sorority Chapter anniversary. (Sorority, I know!) Ages ago she was a charter member for the colony when they started the chapter of her sorority at her university. So for this dinner none of her fellow old-timers showed up, so we were the oldest people there. But it was actually a really good time, hanging around a bunch of bombed sorority actives and alumni dancing around on the dance floor. My wife gets pretty loud and obnoxious normally (sober), so she fit right in and the younger ladies warmed right up to her.
Totally disappointed with their music choice. A lot of Katy Perry and Kesha. My wife brow beat the DJ into letting her hook up my iPod and play Girl Talk and got the dancefloor bumping for about 10 minutes, but then someone stopped that to play Sisco "Thong Song". Really? Whatever.
So somebody tell me when this happened, when did an official organized dance get created for Journey's "Don't Stop Believing"? The song comes on and 40 girls and their partners all report to the dance floor and do a synchronized dance. WTF! Was this from High School Musical or something? When I was growing up, you and your buddy just sang these songs at the top of your lungs driving around aimlessly in your car on summer nights (usually in was Journey's "Lights" while cruising through Hines Park - born and raised west-sider baby!).
So the Sorority dinner broke up around midnight, and we didn't want to call it a night, so we decided to head to downtown Detroit. Figuring either Motorcity Casino or MGM Grand to the nightclubs there, but I figured by the time we got down there last call would be in an hour. So I decided to go to City Club. Last call is still 2:00, but they still keep the dance floor open until at least 4:00. Plus I was there about a month ago after the MotorCity Tattoo Expo without my wife, and she was PISSED that I went without her. The "problem" was that I was in a suit and tie, and she was in a full-length formal gown. For those of you who are not familiar with City Club, it is a Goth Club, and more appropriate attire is more black leather, 1 1/2 inch spike lower lip piercings, or perhaps a gas-mask. There was girl there this Saturday, practicing waist training corsetry, which I had only seen on TV and internet. Luckily, it's a place where everyone just goes to be themselves or live out their fantasies. So we had a good time, despite being dressed inappropriately for the situation. Five_by_Five was up there, it was good to see him. And we meet some new people as well. We finally left at about 4:30. It's funny, we used to go there in the early 90's when we were in college, and it's still fun (different, but still fun).
