I'm happy to say that I'm proud my grandfather had a good life. 90 years is a long time. He was able to say goodbye to each of his kids and his wife including myself and some others. We are going to cremate his body and spread some of his ashes along a river were he spent most of his life. The rest on a feild in the countryside.
I've never had a man this close to me in my life die before. My father had drowned in an accident before I was born, so I never knew him. My grandfather and I never spent that much time together, but I was the oldest of all the grandchildren. That meant to him that I was an example and a leader and he taught me what dedication to life was and passed on some very smart ideas to guide my life.
When I was a kid he use to give me odd gifts, mostly recycled gifts from other realatives and magazine subscriptions to sports magazines I never read except for the swim suit issues. Growing up he use to try to get me to fish, I got sick and screamed the first time I had to clean one. He hated me for that moment. I did like gonig for the company but mostly went through the motions. I remember him drinking alot and moderating over old family stories that nobody ever agreed on that would keep us entertained for hours. I take after him on that for sure.
But when I left home and joined the Navy he told something that I never forgot to this day. He said that everyone you meet in life knows something that you don't know, learn from them. Even if it's what not to do. hHHHHHHHHmmmmm. I remember thinking how will I know if it's what not to do? So I 've always looked at life as something I can TAKE from, but I also feel I have to give something back. So I write, tell stories, create, act, go to concerts, freak out, wish awful things on people, and love the power of love. I don't know what that means other than I'm just socially responsible, however I often loose my way through some side streets that have way too many temptations....
This could go on I'm sure since I feel like talking about everything and anything, but to save you and me from a lot of wasted time, I'll end by saying that I was told he asked to hold everyone's hand and smiled then yelled and told everyone to get the hell out. If you knew this man you would be laughing hysterically with tears in your eyes.
