A Knight's Tale is on cable. Paul Bettany, Alan Tudyk, Shannyn Sossamon being all hot and pretty. And Heath. Sigh.
Indy thoughts:
SPOILERS! (Click to view)
Things that Rocked:
* Harrison.
* Karen Allen.
* Shia. Yes, I liked Shia. He was kinda annoying, but that was the point.
* Corny 50s references, including malt shop fight.
* The fire ants.
* The car/motorcycle chase.
* The commies.
* Cate Blanchett.
* The alien relic plotline.
* It was INDY.
Things that Rotted:
* The CGI.
* The last 1/2 hour or so.
* Too many knowing in-jokes referencing the rest of the trilogy.
("I've got a bad feeling about this..." --> Correct me if I am wrong, but that's Han, not Indy. Or is it both?)
* For that matter, all the ways in which Indy 4 was like ROTJ:
1. dumb furry animals (gophers here, instead of Ewoks)
2. cartoonish action that seemed to be designed for the video game
3. self-referential character jokes rather than actual character development
* Too many people trooping around after Indy. Indy works alone, people. Unless he's got some crazy woman or crazy father or crazy Marcus tagging along with him, Indy works alone. He ditches crazy sidekick whenever possible so he can continue to work alone. He does not need a FOUR PERSON POSSE while he's disarming an ancient Indian temple. He is not Buffy.
* Over the top action i.e. going over THREE waterfalls and everyone landing with nary a hair out of place. See previous note. INDY could survive that. Not Indy and entire posse. I was laughing there, and not in a good way.
Overall, better than I expected, since I had been prepared for the worst.
