Still around. Been working a lot, though. There are worse things, given the economy!

Negotiations, schmegotiations.

In other news, AN ODE TO THE DOLLAR STORE:

So I went to the dollar store today for the first time in forever. I was going with hopes of finding 30 packs of Bicycle playing cards for the low, low price of $1 each (long story and no, I was not successful; I came really close though) and left with 2 bottles of...

A Knight's Tale is on cable. Paul Bettany, Alan Tudyk, Shannyn Sossamon being all hot and pretty. And Heath. Sigh.

Indy thoughts:

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

Things that Rocked:
* Harrison.
* Karen Allen.
* Shia. Yes, I liked Shia. He was kinda annoying, but that was the point.
* Corny 50s references, including malt shop fight.
* The fire ants.
* The car/motorcycle chase....

Thoughts from the couch of the unemployed:

* Why do people still go on Maury or Springer? Is this their 15 minutes and they'll take it any way they can get it?

* How common is albinism? Is it wrong that, when I spot an albino dude in L.A. - even from far away - I know almost immediately and with certainty that it is...

* Maury and Springer still draw ratings in the Bible Belt, and that's where these guests' grandparents exist. There's no derth of white trash.

* It's not very common (Brother Ali once told me the statistic, but i've forgotten), and its not wrong to immediately spot them. It is what it is. Your friend gets around LA, apparently.

* I thought Michigan was the home of migrating filmmakerrs. . .

* Is Andrei Arlovski still the head of secujrity for Springer? Lo how the mighty can rise and fall. . .

* For the record, I'm sensitive to the power of words, but between sharon stone and the hogan family, what have we come to? Sometimes you just want to impeach fellow members of the human race.

Life is good.

I went to Waikiki for the better part of a week, on the government's dime. (Well, an old friend works for the government; I just mooched off him.)

There was the beach. There were books and trashy magazines on the beach. There was the pool. There was the pool bar. There were awesome walks and hikes. There was Diamond Head crater. Following...

Dim Sum rocks.

In a perverse way that I will explain on Sunday, it rocks that WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS sucks.

I bet you couldn't appreciate one of "those" jobs if you hadn't decided to swim in the deep end.

"Nothing to sneeze at" is a phrase that came during the beginning of the Black Plague in England. By that point in medical history, it was recognized and acknowledged that you could transfer germs and viruses through saliva, nasal fluid, and a combination of the two through sneezing. People were very aware of their surroundings and thus were extra careful to withhold exposure to people they loved. Or their bosses (lest they get their superiors sick -- potentially fatally so, risking the chance of being fired from the job they needed to survive). As such, something that the commoners put on a pedistal was something you didn't sneeze at.

And that's one to grow on!

I was laid off. Well, everyone was laid off, and our little company - or at least my branch of it - was deemed a failure. This was a long time coming, and frankly I'm relieved, aside from the little problem of employment and its cousin issue, money. I am looking forward to what's next, be it another entertainment industry job (I'm getting some good...

You're at The Crossroads. I've been there, and I took the road more commonly traveled. Definitely took me to a good place, although we all have our own Crossroads.

I really wanna "Hollywood" (lunch / drinks) with you. Or maybe roller derby, which I've been meaning to do for awhile. It hasn't jumped the shark yet? I keep expecting that from Lucha Va Voom. . .

On a plane ride, I had a Michael Cerathon with JUNO and SUPERBAD back to back. Nobody's on his acting jock, right? Cuz I didn't see anything particularly special. Should I?
deceptiviewfilm:
oh wow....sorry bout getting laid off. I wanted to catch up to you before I go grey.

Robbed by Oscar, in my humble opinion:

*GONE BABY GONE. If you have not seen this movie, rent it as soon as it's out on DVD. Then explain to me why Ben and the movie were not nominated.

*LARS AND THE REAL GIRL. This was one of my favorite movies this year. I thought it was completely believable and engaging, mostly due to performances from...

There's more than a few that I will have to catch after the season (NO COUNTRY, THERE WILL BE BLOOD, etc.)

For the record, I still have yet to see JUNO. It's just that Mason's a friend, so I had to show love. . . ATONEMENT blew ass for the hype it was getting.

DIARY OF THE DEAD had its flaws, but was otherwise wonderful. And yes, I describe a zombie movie as "wonderful."

I will take your suggestion on GONE BABY GONE. Didn't like the script. But then again, I read it in like 4 sittings. And you've got me excited about AWAY FROM HER now.

hey...just wanted to say i'm leaving sg....It was nice talking to you.

I forgot to say that Ben Foster alone is reason to see 30 DAYS...

And that LARS AND THE REAL GIRL is a great film that made me cry. You must suspend your disbelief at the door, though, to make this work.
jaytan:
Where are you?"
jaytan:
I will always respect someone's right to their opinion, but I have never felt more vehement about a film than this. I discovered today that a co-worker of mine has known JJ since he was a kid, and I doubt he took me seriously, but I reiterated my willingness to throw down with him.

You are right, that Ben Foster did a great job in 30 DAYS. And somehow, I think I will have a far easier time working with LARS AND THE REAL GIRL than Cloverdoesn'tevendeservecapitals.

I will concede that the marketing campaign for both BLAIR WITCH and CLOVERthingy were brilliant. They made me remember what I love about being a movie fan. And perhaps both were interesting ideas in cinematic experimentation, but when the hype is the best part of a film, it has failed to fulfill on what it promised. And this one just failed more than I can forgive.

Thank you for capitalizing your movie titles. Game recognize game, girl!

Life is rough. But I have decided to talk about good/funny things today. Or, if I can't do that, I'll talk about crappy things in a funny way.

Halloween kicked ass. A few parties during the pre-weekend, both small and large. Then Glen Danzig and Friends at the Greek. Seeing Misfits (in pieces, albeit, with Doyle's band opening and Danzig headlining) was an unforgettable experience....

Getting sick, sadly. Had a bad night with the bottle - when I'd been so good lately - on Wednesday and as punishment, my body has succumbed to the nasty cold that's going around the office.

The office is a whole other disease-filled saga that is not worth space here. Still have a job, for now.

L.A. Invasion rocked. I now get the appeal of...

Random thoughts, sorry....

My favorite cousin just called me.

Me: (picking up) Hey! How are you?

Him: Hold on a sec. (He begins to move into a quiet part of wherever he is calling from. Sounds like a bar.)

Me: Hey, are you in a bar?

Him: What? You're in a bar? You drunkard. I don't want to talk to you. Why the fuck...

Hey - thanks for the belated Birthday wishes smile My Iowan Adventure (I like that - I'm going to steal it and use it whenever I tell that story from now on...) was very fun, including the Barbies part. I must say that my time with Barbie was far less risque than yours however. They were nude... but honestly, that's as far as it went. No really, I swear...
