Life is good.

I went to Waikiki for the better part of a week, on the government's dime. (Well, an old friend works for the government; I just mooched off him.)

There was the beach. There were books and trashy magazines on the beach. There was the pool. There was the pool bar. There were awesome walks and hikes. There was Diamond Head crater. Following my kickass hike of Diamond Head crater, there was awesome organic food at the Health Bar, the owner of which is the proud um, owner, of Pogo, who plays Vincent the yellow lab in Lost. (Seriously, the Health Bar sold tee shirts with Pogo the dog on them. It was awesome.)

There were awesome times with my old friend. He cracks me the fuck up and is a font of knowledge. There were awesome times with his coworkers, one of whom was in my service fraternity in college. They thought my job was quite exciting, which was a nice ego boost, especially since I'm at the age where I'm wondering whether I made the right decision, coming to L.A. to work in the film "business." I ran away from the DC area in part so I wouldn't end up in jobs like theirs - intelligence, nothing to sneeze at! - simply because it would have been the easier choice for me than what I really wanted to do.

(Where on earth did the "nothing to sneeze at" phrase come from? Do people sneeze at things they disdain? How? Do these disdaining people sneeze on cue? If so, how can I learn how to do this?)

The trip renewed my soul and aligned my chakras, if you believe in that sort of thing.

I am still looking for a job but things are looking very positive. In the meantime, I have my part-time reader job, which I am really grateful for.

Things that Suck:
* My arms aching from helping a stranger to move my ex-boyfriend's fridge.
* Feeling like a tool because why on earth am I helping my ex move to his new condo in which he will live with his new girlfriend?
* WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS (Yeah, I shoulda known better.)

Things that Rock:
* Being fit enough to help a stranger move a fridge down a flight of stairs.
* Feeling like "a bigger person" and "a good friend" for helping my ex move to his new condo.
* Free lunch for helping my ex move. Yeah, that's what I'm talking about...
* Waikiki
* Old friends
* New friends
* Brothers and Sisters (tv)
* Eggs, toast, and hash browns
* The fact that I get more freckles when I am tan (burned).
* Vodka

jaytan:
Dim Sum rocks.

In a perverse way that I will explain on Sunday, it rocks that WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS sucks.

I bet you couldn't appreciate one of "those" jobs if you hadn't decided to swim in the deep end.

"Nothing to sneeze at" is a phrase that came during the beginning of the Black Plague in England. By that point in medical history, it was recognized and acknowledged that you could transfer germs and viruses through saliva, nasal fluid, and a combination of the two through sneezing. People were very aware of their surroundings and thus were extra careful to withhold exposure to people they loved. Or their bosses (lest they get their superiors sick -- potentially fatally so, risking the chance of being fired from the job they needed to survive). As such, something that the commoners put on a pedistal was something you didn't sneeze at.

And that's one to grow on!
