Robbed by Oscar, in my humble opinion:
*GONE BABY GONE. If you have not seen this movie, rent it as soon as it's out on DVD. Then explain to me why Ben and the movie were not nominated.
*LARS AND THE REAL GIRL. This was one of my favorite movies this year. I thought it was completely believable and engaging, mostly due to performances from Emily Mortimer (whom I usually don't care for), Paul Schneider, and Ryan Gosling.
*INTO THE WILD. Now, I don't know how I feel about the film as a whole, but I still think Emile Hirsch shoulda been a contender. Ditto Eddie's soundtrack. (There must be some rule I didn't know about as to why he didn't get nominated, right?)
And... am I the only one who didn't think JUNO was all that great? (Cowering...) And, um, ditto ATONEMENT?
Currently watching AWAY FROM HER which is heartbreaking and beautiful all at once. Julie Christie is gorgeous, and I officially want to be Sarah Polley when I grow up. Also, there's a supporting turn by character actor Michael Murphy that is just brilliant. I love Mr. Murphy, even though he still terrifies me as Rice in CLOAK AND DAGGER. Olympia Dukakis likewise turns in a great performance... watch the film if only for her old persony rendition of the Jon Favreau/SWINGERS answering machine debacle.

For the record, I still have yet to see JUNO. It's just that Mason's a friend, so I had to show love. . . ATONEMENT blew ass for the hype it was getting.
DIARY OF THE DEAD had its flaws, but was otherwise wonderful. And yes, I describe a zombie movie as "wonderful."
I will take your suggestion on GONE BABY GONE. Didn't like the script. But then again, I read it in like 4 sittings. And you've got me excited about AWAY FROM HER now.
