Last week work was trying, but more successfu than usual. My projects are moving forward despite everything that could/will go wrong. I had drinks with the director of our film (being locked this week) and we shared war stories. My old coworker, the slimy one, pulled something really really slimy and as a precaution, we all changed our email passwords and are changing the locks. The whole story is kind of yucky and not appopriate for a public blog, but the point is I tried my damnest for a year to give the man the benefit of the doubt (all the while guarding my shit and covering my ass with him), only to have him fulfill our worst expectations. Sad.
Things got better with a spontaneous Vegas trip to see Gwen in the first show of her "Sweet Escape" tour. I had a fucking blast. The concert was amazing. Was right down on the floor, first row standing against the stage. No opening bands, just Gwen. Preshow entertainment instead consisted of celebrity spotting. The guys from No Doubt showed, as did a few Vegas-type celebs (Paris Hilton, Dave Navarro, Bruce Willis, Taryn Manning).
The show itself started with the Harajuku Girls running through the audience, dressed as cops chasing after robbers. The "Sweet Escape" jail theme continued in costumes and dance for a few numbers before segeuing into the standard stylized school uniforms for Hollaback and Wind it Up and such. (If you've ever seen Gwen Stefani, you know she sings great live, but it's really more about the dances and the costume changes every two songs.) The woman is an amazing peformer. My crush on her is renewed, and her band was quite pretty as well, including her bassist/backup singer whose name I always forget but who looks a bit like Me'Shell Ndege Ochello (spelling butchered horribly, sorry).
I played blackjack and, true to my last couple trips to Vegas, was up and down, mostly up, before ending $200 in the hole. That is not bad really, for me, especially considering the room was comped thanks to my awesome friend.
Trying to motivate, despite sickness and post-Vegas malaise, to go to sushi with friends, so I am out...
