I survived the Griffith Park fire just fine. I stressed a ton though; after contemplating a voluntary pre-evacuation to my friend's place in NoHo, I fell asleep on my couch in front of the news, clutching my flashlight and my cat. My apartment still smells like burning.
What a tiring, tiring week. Job has got me down. Also now doing weights to supplement my cardio... Read More
She was quite an emotional roller coaster ride. Yeah, its in the back journals. But thank you. But be forewarned, there's not coverage on this story.
"Ichi, ni, san, DA!!" (it's an Inoki thing) to your workout routine. Keep it up. One day, very soon, you'll look in the mirror and do a Tobey-Maguire-second-act-double-take.
Went home sick today. My stomach is a wreck. I've been hurling for no good reason. Or, more to the point, for two bad reasons: 1) stress and 2) eating meat occasionally when overall, I've gone off the stuff.
I had three sets of plans tonight and I'm stuck home moping, sickly, watching Gilmore Girls reruns, and hanging out online.
Don't stress so much, because it ruins your appreciation for a good flank steak.
Pass on Kozo. I don't know if you'd agree or not, but generally, I think someone has to be dead in order to justify a movie on them. However, there are interesting stories behind current fighters like Kazushi Sakuraba (mainstream Japanese legend who's beaten 4 Gracies), Kid Yamamoto (top-flight fighter who returned to amateur wrestling to fulfill his dead father's dream of Olympic gold), Kyoko Hamiguchi (female amateur wrestling champion whose father is a pro wrestler), or Bruiser Brody (American wrestler who became a legend in Japan, later stabbed to death in a bathroom in Puerto Rico).
Things that suck:
*Having to shell out any amount of money to buy your rich boss a birthday present
*1800flowers.com website fucking not working on any of your office's internet browsers
*Moldy bagels
*Drinks being cancelled
*Having to go to another fucking wedding. Quit mating, people! Or, at least, quit asking me to be in your audience!

Add to Things that rule:
*When your rich boss becomes your ex-boss and his birthday comes around, such that you merely email him (and trust me, he notices it and regrets your absence).
*Having to go to another fucking wedding outside of LA (although granted, this also applies to things that suck, due to airfare)
*Japanese colleagues. When you quiz them on Godzilla movies or Japanese pro wreslting, you show your geek hand, but they also think that you're multi-cultural.
*Fellow industryites on SG. It instills faith that not everybody in the biz is a worn-out, mentally mechanical drone adorned in wannabe couture. Bonus points for references to Court House, Vienna, and Metro Center.
Kozo's name didn't ring a bell, but I asked around and he was at one point a top contender, maybe even champion. His manager is friends with a colleague of mine, apparently. On the older side, but still competitive in K-1 and the general kickboxing world.
Saw HAIRSPRAY, the movie musical. John Travolta is an abomination. Let's just say he is no Devine. Plus, maybe Mr. Travolta can dance, but in a fat suit he moves horribly. The rest of the movie is pretty good. (Disclaimer: I am a fan of the film but I know nothing about the musical except what Ugly Betty's nephew sang on the subway.) It probably... Read More
Last week work was trying, but more successfu than usual. My projects are moving forward despite everything that could/will go wrong. I had drinks with the director of our film (being locked this week) and we shared war stories. My old coworker, the slimy one, pulled something really really slimy and as a precaution, we all changed our email passwords and are changing the locks.... Read More
I am shaken by the shootings at VA Tech. I have confirmed that my student friends (friends' younger siblings and the like) are okay. Thank god. I expect, in the coming days, to hear of dead from my hometown in Virginia. What a mess. I need to turn off the tv and internet, because I am being absorbed by the sights, sounds, and exploitative CNN... Read More
See GRINDHOUSE. I quite liked it. And this is having read the script, so I got no surprises. (If you thought DEATH PROOF dragged, you shoulda read the 120 page version.) I am in fact quite surprised the film did so poorly this weekend. I guess a 3-hour R-rated throwback can only do so much business.
Another huge highlight of the weekend was the Briggs/Tiger... Read More

Work is good but crazy this week. Getting tons of rare props from my bosses, mostly in response to manning the shop while they were checked out last week. Unfortunately these compliments come in the face of my coworker/friend getting ignored (while selling 3 projects, nonetheless) and numerous support staff getting screeched at. When not out at meetings, I've spent the day shut in my... Read More
I was bummed, bummed, bummed that SG burlesque was cancelled on Monday. Should check the SGLA forum to find out why the f.
My best girlfriend and I went to a diner instead (one of the hipster-y diners that are so common in H-wood) and gobbled mac & cheese (me) and tuna melt (her). We gabbed about all manner of things... life, exams (her bf... Read More
Going to Tokyo on Friday. Freaking the f out about it. First time; I am going on business. Should be honored (am). Should be excited (am, a little). Totally freaked out. Travel, new people, new environment, having to buy new clothes... all of these things hurt my head.
My coworker said I'd be fine, and among the reasons he listed is:
Quinton Rampage Jackson also Rocks. I"m just sayin' tho. . .
