cutting is a physical response to emotional pain. people do it because they are hurting so much on the inside, and cutting allows them to externalize the pain, and acts to calm them down. Certain chemicals get released in the body when a person cuts that make them feel better. when I was really fucked up in hig school I used to cut a lot.
and yeah, most people would probably agree with the statement you made about it being icky, and its hard for anyone who never went through it to really understand.
personally I like blood and find knifeplay sexy, so cutting can be either a bad or a good thing for me

Taking it slow means the other person ACTUALLY WANTS to get to know you rather than just hopping in the sac getting the deed done and then splitting for a small eternity.
