Summer reading: Finished David Matthews' "Kicking Ass and Saving Souls" and Glen Duncan's "The Last Werewolf" and interviewed their authors. Now reading Jon Meacham's "American Lion," a biography of Andrew Jackson. He was a complicated man and no one understood him but his woman, who died the very night of his inauguration. And I think he was a werewolf too.

Good reading... those seem interesting smile

No matter dark the night, no matter how dire the circumstances, "Under Pressure" always serves to bail me out. The song was released when I was ... what, 12 years old? Long before I fully understood who David Bowie was and what he'd accomplished, and long before anyone knew that Freddie Mercury was concealing his sexuality from stadiums full of hard-rocking homophobes. No matter how...

I spent most of Friday and Saturday in a foul mood that, with hindsight, I can fully attribute to trifles -- work concerns, money concerns, fears of getting older. That cat won't fight. I've always been fortunate in finding work and keeping my head above water (and I'm always prepared to work; that helps considerably), and as for this business of aging, well, it was...

You are correct. It is much much easier said than done. I find myself giving this advice to other people while fearing that they'll ask me how I do it. I always get these grand notions that I'll do things differently, do more, live less inhibited but it seldom happens. Now excuse me while I retreat to my bomb shelter, just in case.

I appreciate your kind thoughts

Hope you're ok now!

Wow. I guess Hot Water was feeling a little under appreciated.

Facebook is not a social responsibility. We are in no way obligated to read the ramblings of the extreme right- or left-wingnuts we went to high school with, or to share more personal details than we feel justified in sharing. This means that if you decide, after reading one of my Facebook posts, that I'm a complete idjit, you're perfectly within your rights to...

Today I interviewed a bestselling author for the book review website (at seven in the fucking AM -- not my most lucid hour), revised my piece for the business magazine, ran 5k, read my backlog issues of "Chew," "Sweet Tooth" and "The Sixth Gun," did some housework ... and I still have time to look at dirty pictures. Today, I'm looking up to my own...

My handwriting is going to shit. It was never that great to begin with -- I'm self-taught at cursive and typing, which is why my approach to both is so individual and also sucky -- but lately I've been putting pen to paper the way Lindsay Lohan puts car to Hollywood. I'm swerving all over the fucking place, and not in those ways that are...

I am going crazy buying books. I feel the need to stock up on real books before they disappear. Like I am preparing for some book apocalypse or something.

People may laugh now, but when the Bookocalypse comes, you'll be our champion.

Today, I did these things:

1. Laundry. My third-favorite household chore, after vacuuming and dishes. I think it's going to become very trendy this year.

2. Petted kittehs. Now they like me again.

3. Posted a new website review column over at Vegas Seven; visit here if you're into the Internets, Las Vegas or columns. I'm particularly proud of my IKEA bit: "A veritable Sigur...

Ah, chilling the fuck out. Good plan smile
My friends in Squalrus are playing Folklife at 12:30 at the Vera on Sunday. You could check it out if you have time. I'm doing that other festival on the other side of the state this weekend. Will have extra desert-y fun for you biggrin <3

There are those days when the only sensible way to listen to music is too fucking loud. Guess which kind of day this is.

WHAT? What'd you say? I can't hear you over my music.... wink
