My crew has been having fun showing off these lab coats we made:

(Skip ahead to 7:28 to see the lab coats in action.)

How-To for sewing one yourself here.

Last night we took them to Sensored, a meet-up for folks who make cool reactive things. It was the one-year anniversary of that group, so they had a cake. The cake had a dinosaur...

I'm watching Into the Universe with Stephen Hawking and it's just gotten to the point in episode 3 (about 25 minutes in) where he talks about the life cycle of a star - how the each star begins as a mass of hydrogen, that starts to form helium by fusion, and then helium fuses into carbon and so on... until the star has made iron....

It does seem kinda of mystical and magical. I always kind of laugh at myself loving to immerse myself into fantasy worlds but the real world is just as fascinating and wondrous. Faerie starts <3

I know we are a bit bizarre for it but I always like a strong jawline...angular, strong features in general.
redheadedleague:
I don't know if it's that series or another, but one thing that really struck me was how rapidly the star dies after iron is fused. It really is stellar poison.

One of my favorite folks from the hackerspace where I spend my days just launched a new product line of high-tech fashion: Agent of Presence.

I've seen Alana (one of the two founders) at TechShop all hours of the day and night, inventing new finishes for novel materials to make them catch the light just so, or soldering circuits for the prototype handbags. And...

There's a song that cuts.

I have heard tell that American chestnuts are sweeter and better-tasting than European chestnuts, and that the reason chestnuts have fallen out of favor here is that Americans were unwilling to settle for the European kind. It is presumably easier to sing the praises of something no one's ever tasted, of course.

The South misses you, but it is happy to see that you are where you want to be smile

Well, THAT was a good party. There was:

  • A chair/tank/robot.
  • Sometimes being driven by a 12-year-old hacker savant, sometimes by that 3D printer guy, and once or twice, by me.
  • A lab-coat that turned its wearer into a walking, glowing breathalizer. (Granted, I knew that would be there. I helped make that one.)
  • Open-source martinis.
  • OK, really, most martinis are open source. It was still...

I got to Night Market late. We didn't really get to do much before the cops showed up. Also, my friend was itching to get over to a speakeasy to see her friends.

More on Project Orion: Netflix Watch-It-Now

They had one plan to send a 8 million ton ship to Jupiter. That's the size of a modest city, or 40 Sears Towers put together. Interestingly, running the numbers on what it would cost to do, it was ~16 trillion dollars; approximately the entire economic output of the modern US in a year. Actually, about 4 years worth...

The bassnectar remix is too repetitive for a burlesque number, I can't keep track of where I am in the song.

In Which I Geek Out About Booze

Science!! 2012 has concluded. This is what we have learned:
Guinness and Murphy's stouts both make a good Irish Carbomb.
Average rating for Guinness: 7.28
Average rating for Murphy's: 7.17
That difference is within the margin of error. They're both equally good, so far as we can tell.

If you don't know what I'm talking about...

The journey continuing:

- Where'd the shampoo go? Ok, I'll get another bottle. Hm. Two choices. This one is green and has a leaf on it. This one is clear and has a turnip on it. Obviously, I HAVE to try the turnip shampoo. My Poland experience can't be complete without trying the turnip shampoo.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
It smelled like concentrated turnips. Being...

Insomnia, or jet lagged confusion? Or just that winter-time instinct to split sleep into sleeps, two per night?

It's pleasant to have these quiet hours to myself during days packed into a hostel, 8 to a room.

Krakw is lovely, as always.

Today I meet one of the artists for my game face-to-face for the first time. I'll be catching brunch with Tomasz. Then Sunday...

Warsaw. 30 minutes to midnight.

The table behind me is laughing, swapping jokes while skipping fluidly from Polish to French to English. I can only catch the odd reference to Steven Fry, Inspector Clouseau, or Monty Python's Grail.

That's who I want to be when I grow up.

Deal! The quiet, sexy marksman role is yours. I must say it really suits you. biggrin

I've never seen 'Attack the Block', but it's on my list now. I was also told I need to watch 'Hobo With a Shotgun'. Not a horror, but still. It sounds...um....intriguing.

My condolences.
