Nostalgia
I miss the pink house.
We wed under that willow.
Then it blew over.
I worked my ass off building their patio
Digging through roots, hauling bricks, shoveling sand.
I loved it.
I lay on my back,
freezing in the dark
wiring in their new heaters.
I inhaled
volatile organic compounds
painting their house
inside and out.
And what did they do?
Moved out, turned it into a rental,
Took a big tax deduction,
Then sold it.
They owe me.
They're gonna paint my damn house
And install my new dishwasher!
She reminds me
they already painted our house.
And did the floors.
And the new tub.
They're good friends.
They will paint the house
and install the dishwasher,
and they'll love it.
I wish we saw them more often.
Everything changes.

doesn't it, though? and it is a good thing. i bought one of the books you recommended for me today. it was a small leap but i know i could use a little nonviolent communication, esp. in times like these...thanks. i've been to olympia once and really liked it. it seemed a very magical place.
