Chapter One
Three days passed, the Domes were destroyed, we took the whites out Nursery and we were off to a new world. They leading us to where? None of us really knew, all that was known was to anybody for certain was that going back was no option. The man who was leading us was said to be some rouge sandman who found Sanctuary. Nobody knew what or where this Sanctuary was or what it would be like when we got there. Then out of nowhere a tall blonde figure in a torn sandmans uniform stood before us all as though he was a prophet, no, like a god cause when he spoke he sure as hell sounded as though he one. All of us stood in silence waiting for the words to come out of his mouth and so they came. Look at your hands! we all did and well it, it, to say shocking would be an understatement. When people saw the clear crystal in the palm of their hand most of them didnt know what to do, me I just starred. Realizing that my lifeclock is now lifeless, I, I couldnt do anything, didnt want to do anything accept stair. I mean three days ago it was green! I had only green for a month. Compare to others I was taking it well, I saw people fainting believing this to be their death. Some were ecstatic believing theyd renewed without going on carousel and others were just starring at one another wondering if theirs would be the same. Still having a stupid dumbfounded gaze on my face, some red had yanked my hand in order to compare his lifeclock with mine. He then proceeded to show it off to some lady friends of his telling them see, see I told you we werent the only ones! like some kids with a new toy, the girls began playing with my lifeclock, running their fingers along its ridges and looking at their reflections from my hand. One of the girls then leaned her head forward slowly pressing her nose to it moving her head slowly, gently back and forth her eyes shut she had a slight smile, the same kind you see on small child when theyve sniffed the sweet smell of their first flower. Yet to all of us no matter what was going on or who we were, no matter how we reacted the reality that the lifeclocks could no longer dictate our lives was something freeing. Now they were something of beauty, something to admire and love dare I say.
Then the sandman began to speak, at that moment I took my hand back from the red and his friends. Others to become silent facing in the sandmans direction waiting for the words coming out of his mouth as though our very existence relied on it, whom I kidding it did. As he began to speak a woman appeared next to him, she was dawning a torn mint green dress and had brown hair her eyes were blue just like his and by the looks of it they were pairmates. Now the moment of truth finally came, the sandman spoke your freedom begins today; if you wish to leave then you may do so. If you wish to stay and continue onward then you do this as well, but keep this in mind! This world youll find is nothing like the one you and I are accustomed to! It is a world that man had abandoned long ago! It is a world that must be rebuilt, but can be rebuilt quickly if we work together! Thats if you choose to continue with us!.
Many of us just looked up; we hadnt a thing to say let alone deciding our fate. Then out of nowhere a white in the front of the crowd a boy all but of three, asked a question the kind that one should have asked the very moment we fled the city, but never did. Sandman whats your name? quite a few in the crowd were shocked and by the look of a few around me were wondering where the hell was a green or a red to knock some sense into the little brat? You see, questioning a sandman in any fashion would spell drastic consequences even death, but him, he was different he smiled bashfully, something a sandman never did. The sandman giggled slightly and answered Oh! Oh well how rude of me! Im Logan! Logan 5! and Im Jessica! Jessica6! shouted the woman next to him.
Well that answered my question thinking to myself, but then like the white some one else began to talk and he wasnt some kid. He was standing just behind the young boy, dawning a carousel robe ready for lastday but now enraged by the words that came from the sandmans mouth. Since youve now introduced yourself to us, answer me this Logan 5? Three days ago I was ready to give my life because the law stated so and now you bring us to a land we know nothing of, then ask me, ask us to decide weather or not go on with you or leave and face certain unthinkable fates alone. You know its one thing to lead people to a certain death, but another to play with human life. No you will take us to this place you have found so that I can live as long as I please. Then the man placed his hand on the small boys shoulder saying so that he may live as long as he pleases, any way he pleases. With that Logan began walking and didnt say a word and for that matter nor did anyone else, for the rest of the journey we just shut up and followed.
Another day turns into night, Logan as we now knew him told us that or destination was less than a half days journey but that it be best to set up camp for the time being and rest. So camp was set up but no one was sleeping, some look back in the direction of the city bidding farewell to the past. A few gathered around the old man listening to whatever it was he was saying. Most of the crowd though had their attention fixed on the sky Im telling you it was just.. something. Something that had put people completely in awe, it had countless numbers of tiny white dots for a moment you wouldve thought they along with the sky were moving. A few of these dots would shoot across the sky while others would twinkle the twinkle in someones eye or my personal favorite, the twinkle from a piece of diamond jewelry found around a young ladys neck or some other portion of her body. Something that also caught the eye of the crowd besides the white dots in the sky was its color. Black, until now that was something a person tried to place in the back of their mind especially if you were a red on lastday but that was now a distant memory, the black of this sky was something of curiosity. Curiosity as to what made it that color? Or what were those dots in the sky? What was their purpose? Though capturing our sight with their simple but breathtaking beauty was purposes enough.
I spent that night viewing those in the crowd the way a doctor would examine the body of a patient. Capturing the colors of the crowd or as many as my eye could possibly capture was a terrific feet let alone getting a look at their faces. Speaking of which, I never really noticed anybodys face figured that Id have plenty of to see peoples faces once we reached our destination. The sky changed colors, slowly from black to purple then a dark blue. Sounds of awe and wonder came from the people as though magic had happened. Then the orb of light came into view three days now became four and the time had come to conclude our journey.
The conclusion of our journey took us though more greenery, more rough terrain, uneven roads and me aggravated, hot with the crazy as hell stupid idea of turning back. I cant understand how why a thought such as that passed through my mind however, I needed only to see at the palm of my hand to realize what a mistake that would be. Our destination was reached and Logan was right. It was ruins; the buildings had fallen apart and were covered with vines and other such greenery. In some of these buildings we found statues of old men and by the looks of it they had to have been of prominence and power or else thered be no real reason to make statues of them.
Certainly not for their beauty, I spent the day combing through the ins and outs of what was to be my new home or what ins and outs there were. Whatever it was, it wasnt our city, the buildings were predominantly for administrative purposes and were unimaginative and lacking of character. It had no amphatheataters or auditoriums, no dance halls or arcades, a few museums though, but they were never anything remotely like ours. One thing that stood out was a tall white obelisk, it was flawless the only thing in this godforsaken place that time had been kind to. From a distant, you could see the orb of light shine right above it. True beauty, perfection in an otherwise graveyard to the past, flocks of people gathered around it I being one of them. Out of the crowd stood out one person, she dawned a knee-high blue dress with short brown hair. I could only see her backside but questions began to dawn upon me, could it be? Did she make it out? Could that be my sister?
Dia and I were inseparable, born in the same breeder though four years apart, she was the ideal big sister. She tutor in my lessons, taught me proper manners, never ridiculed me, hell she raised me. We had even lived in a quad together; in fact this had been the longest since wed been apart. To be sure it was her I had to get her attention the only way I knew how. I came up from behind, covered her eyes and whispered into her ear you cant be my sister youre just too stunning. She was smiling I could always tell then she turned and faced me, looking at one anther we were in shock as though seeing someone from the dead, as if seeing someone renewed. Her eyes were blue like the sky her skin was radiant and tan and a smile of which words cant express. To say she was beautiful would be an in justice and dont say that because she happened to be my sister.
She then held me in her arms and for that moment everything was as it should be. Having her in arms had me in tears; they fell from my eyes and onto her shoulders within seconds of their formation. Dia raised her head to face me then kissed me upon my forehead and the tears went away, it was as though we were children once again.
