Much love to you all, and thanks for your words of support. My uncle is doing better at the moment - he had to have quadruple bypass surgery, which is pretty hairy stuff for anyone but especially for someone in his condition. Nevertheless, he made it through okay, so at the moment there is at least cause for guarded optimism for the immediate future. My...

Sorry I had to disappear for a few days, everyone. I had to go to Paris, TX this weekend (not to be confused with Paris, France, which has culture and a certain joie de vivre - Paris, Texas has cultured yogurt and a lady named Joy waits tables at the Kountry Kitchen). My aunt's husband (this would be my slightly unhinged Pentecostal aunt, who thinks...

Goddamned, motherfucking, asshole HMOs. mad mad mad mad

I had a prescription for Celebrex that I took in Wednesday to get filled, thinking I'd be able to pick it up the next day. Wrong! The assholes at Cigna required preapproval, so my doc had to call in before the scrip could be filled. Now, I thought this was a mere formality to confirm that the scrip wasn't a forgery,...

Hmm.... Celebrex and heart trouble, or Relafen and GI tract problems? There's a Hobson's choice for you.

HMOs suck. I'm not a fan of managed care.
xgenehawk:
no apologies needed. I have been reading a lot of articles about how lawsuits have driven up the cost of health care but I have yet to hear anything else about why health cost is so expensive in this country compared to other countries . I mean that couldn't be the single reason why healthcare is so expensive.
Thanks for your input .

Edit: I always wonder why drugs are more expensive here than in other countries . I always reason that it all depends on how much the whole manufacturing process cost and because we have more strict labor laws in this country compare to other countries, the cost of manufacturing would be more expensive but Canada have similar labor laws and yet drugs are cheaper north of the border . I guess it all comes down to the companies who manufactures the drugs have expenses such as health care for employees, pension, etc... so if health care rises, the drug prices rises... both prices are influenced by each other ...
What's your take on drug prices ?

Well, the last few days have been interesting, to say the least. I went over to my sister's house yesterday for the weekend, which was very odd, but also very positive. This was the first time I had seen my sister since about 1998, and we spent a lot of time catching up on things. My brother was also there with his new wife and...

It's a Celebration, Bitches!

Why? Because this post is being typed with two hands! smile

Went to the orthopedist today. Good news: the cast is now off. The fracture wasn't nearly as bad as the ER doc thought, so I get to keep my hand free. I still have limited range of motion, and will be healing for 6-8 weeks, but at least I don't have...

I knew you were a drama queen , probably just a hairline fracture ... just kidding, anyways, doctors always overblown the diagnosis to cover their asses in case the worst happen, most likely you will be back swinging your arm in 6-8 weeks ... unless you are an athlete and compete professionally, you won't notice much difference ...
allycat_13:
Yeah if you hit me with a ball your ass would be on the ground so fast, even though your a cripple. tongue
Not a problem at all. Its always fun and I love the people who go. At around 8:30 we meet up and bowl at 9.

Things I Hate, Volume VI:

18) Typing with one hand. mad

19) Having to do right-hand stuff with my left hand. mad mad

20) HMO's. mad mad mad What should have been a simple trip to a orthopedist was turned into a Kafkaesque nightmare when I discovered that the orthopedist I was referred to by the ER is not covered under my plan. So I had to find another orthopedist, which...

Good luck - I've broken my wrist(s) a couple of times, as well has had corrective surgery on one, and it SUCKS to lose use of your hand.

Before I started law school, I was a "managed care coordinator" for a surgical practice. I know far, far more about health insurance than anyone rightfully should. And I can verify from a professional perspective that Cigna sucks. You're lucky, actually, that you found a PCP able to see a new patient so quickly. Feel better!

Update: went to the ER tonight, spent 3 hours waiting to be seen, and another being examined (and waiting some more). Diagnosis: fractured radial head in my right arm. frown frown frown

I have a huge cast on my arm at the moment, and going to see orthopedist on Mon. Right now, the ER doc says I could be wearing cast for up to 6 wks. blackeyed Will try...

Hello everyone,

I'm probably not going to be around for the next few days - took a bit of a spill yesterday, and have done something not so good to my right elbow. frown I was on my way to a friend's house at the time so I could hang with him on the night before his wedding, and didn't want to be a nuisance when...

I made my song a coat
Covered with embroideries
Out of old mythologies
From heel to throat;
But the fools caught it,
Wore it in the world's eyes
As though they'd wrought it.
Song, let them take it,
For there's more enterprise
In walking naked.

--William Butler Yeats, "A Coat"

I love Yeats, especially when he's being particularly catty.

It's June 5th, and today is a special day for two reasons:

1) On June 5, 1968, Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated at the Ambassador Hotel in LA shortly after winning the California Democratic primary. It's staggering to imagine how much different this country, and the world, might be if he had survived to win the Democratic nomination and run against Nixon in the presidential...
