It`s all about self respect, and respecting someone`s right to their self respect.
If you play the game of one-up, everyone loses.
If you`re worried about how cool you might or might not be without the latest gizmo, gadget, sunglasses, or car... you`re not cool, and nothing`s going to save you.
Cool is about taking what you`ve got, and being comfortable with it - comfortable with yourself.
Self respect doesn`t mean you don`t get naked in public, or in pictures - it means you only do so on your own terms, because you want to. Same goes in reverse.
The richest people in the world are the people who have family and/or friends that are genuine, and don`t care about material bullshit.
The WORST friends?
The ones that make plans for a dinner/movie night, and invite you, despite the fact they know you can`t afford it. It`s happened to me quite a few times, and the hardest part was, one of them would have paid had I asked, but I`m too proud to ask. I may or may not accept if they offered - I hate accepting money, especially when I`m broke.
If you ever lend money to friends? Don`t.
NEVER lend money to friends if you want them to stay friends - give it to them, if you like - but don`t expect it back. A friend always gets paid last, because they`re a friend. You`re not going to evict them or repossess their car - if you are, you`re not much of a friend in the first place.
Lending money only leads to hard feelings - on both sides.
One person feels guilty because they can`t pay it back, the other feels stiffed because it`s not paid back.
Even if it does get paid back - the "You owe me!" or "I owe you!" feelings do not belong in a friendship.
If I give you something, it`s because I want to - not because I want something. If I buy you lunch, it`s not so I can get a free lunch at a later date. I buy it, then forget about it... If you buy me a lunch at a later date, you forget it too, because it`s not about even or odd, it`s about, well, time well spent with someone whose company you enjoy.
People pay 100 bucks for a quick sex interaction - what is a genuine friendship moment worth?
Priceless.
It`s all about self respect, and respecting the self respect of others. Find your line in the sand, and redefine it, and redesign it - but that line, if people really care about you...? You`re the only one who will ever have to move it, and it`ll only ever be for your own sense of self.
Don`t cross my line, because I promise, I won`t cross yours. I may push the boundaries from time to time... but it`s like an invisible door. I won`t cross the threshold unless you open the door. Unless you want to open the door. And don`t do it because I opened my door for you - again.
In friendship, in love, in relationships. Tit for tat, This for that, fair`s fair, do me and I`ll owe you one?
Fuck that shit.
You owe me nothing, ever - except honesty.
It`s all about... nothing really - just remember, a quality friend is worth far more than the price of a meal, or stupid pride.

yay! i'm stoked because i'm going to get the tattoo soon, even though i am not really in the position to do so. that just means no trips to bellingham for a while and i have to find a job sooner, but it's a fair trade! i was thinking about putting some traditional style roses on the sides so it will wrap around my arm more... thanks, here's the gummy bears i owe ya!
