I couldn't believe my ears... I told a guy he was a pain in the ass, and he responded "It's because I'm brown".
I laughed my ass off at the time - but it's more than a little disturbing. I mean - I'm of the opinion that it's the person and the actions that define who we are, not where we were born, or what our parents believe, or what colour our skin happens to be... and even in jest, that kinda gives the wrong impression of the whole thing.
I don't know what the proper reply to that would be that might still elicit a laugh, but also give some sort of message that it's not a cool thing to say - self depricating or otherwise :/
I mean - it would have been a good response to "Wow, you really tan dark!" or something like that... and that's the kind of comment I'd probably make... just because I saw something that astounded me once.
I was at youth camp, and one of the employees was a very large, very very black man. About the third day, I was riding my horse along the road - it was the first really hot day. The really, really black man took his shirt off - his chest was really, really white. a few days later it was as black as his face - that kinda situation... a comment on how quickly he tanned from white to black as coal... "It's because I'm Black" would have been an appropriate response.
The world confuses me :/
