For anyone who doesn't think the terrorists are winning the war, think again.
Any time there's a major event, be it a large gathering, a concert, or whatnot?
Huge security.
People are afraid of what will happen if there aren't zillions of friendly guns pointed at them at all times. Does that strike anyone as odd?
SWAT teams defending the superbowl?
The purpose of the terrorist actions were to make people afraid. Apparently it worked.
You can't go to a sporting event without being a suspect.
Or cross a border. Especially not if you're travelling with someone not from the same city as yourself, which makes you a standout suspect.
Crossing into the US with American friends is a no-no. All kinds of trepidation, and an automatic meeting with immigration folks, who are overly suspicious.
The "culture of fear" in the US isn't really all that noticable, other than at large events and border crossings - but the fact that people think being surrounded by hoardes of armed security is acceptable? It's both scary and sad at the same time. Gone are the days when a dozen gigantic men armed with nothing but intimidation provided effective security at events.
Those were the days...
