Just watching the news, and I'm utterly kerfuffled and amazed...
Government contributions to Tsunami relief?
Canada, $425 Million (originally $4 Million)
USA, $427 Million (Originally $35 Million? somewhere around there)
Kudos to both governments, and all the individuals who've gone out of their way to make a difference.
Almost a billion dollars and much support from a mere 300 million people... come to think of it - that's a whole $2.75 per person in Canada and the US, on average.
$11.50 for each Canadian, $1.64 for every American
We're sure a cheap bunch, aren't we?
Add a $25 dollar flat rate tax to our income tax this year, and make it a cool $900 million from Canada and $6.5 Billion from the US... that would be affordable and effective... $7.4 billion dollars in aid from just a $25 dollar contribution from each citizen of Canada and the USA
Of course, knowing government, they'd just make the $25 thing permanent... after all, a $900 Million windfall for the Canadian government, they'd have fun giving it away to shitty artists for crappy paintings (that's 900 paintings!)... and the US government never has enough bombs - just think how many DU shells they could buy with $6.5 Billion Dollars?
*sighs*
Governments suck ass... but at least they're trying to help :/
