Bought a book titled "Book Yourself Solid" that purports to teach you how to do what the title states. Unfortunately, most of the information so far is either stuff I was already doing, or stuff that's not feasible to implement with the kind of business I run.
The two things it did helpfully suggest though, that I'm going ahead and trying, were to sell yourself as the product, and also it had a little system for better finding what your ideal customers are. I find my ideals would be well-rounded weirdos who buy right away. Now finding some trick to appeal to them.
Kind of an unfortunate effect though is it encourages getting rid of undesirable clients (that is, the ones you hate working with) and frankly that's most of mine. So, presently I'm getting very little business and discouraging the few interested people I'm finding because I just can't stand to work with anyone who writes in chatspeak anymore.
