My $20 of spices arrived today -- good day to have arrived, too, as it allowed me to make cardamom and pepper spiced tea soon as I got home (just the thing for when it's so horribly cold out as it was... the little puddles and birdbaths in the Meadows were all icing over.) I also have a giant tub of basil to use now. My favorite foot-soak is 1/4 tsp ground black pepper and a tablespoon of basil steeped in the water for a few minutes before using it, and since I'm walking in the cold so much it seemed sensible to buy the basil in bulk for this purpose. I also have it now for Santeria style baths, which I probably have to take old-style by washing out of a bucket with a towel.
Went to the library and grabbed up a couple more books. I just finished Vita Sackville-West's "The Edwardians" (not recommended) and now I have a book about medieval London and one about the Edwardian era in general with lots of photos (I mostly got it thinking of my Gibson Girl blog.)
There were also two boys, like maybe age 15 or so, who wanted me to buy them something from a head shop... I initially agreed but I was just not familiar at all with the product they wanted and as it wasn't obviously placed anywhere, and I couldn't figure out a way to ask for it that wasn't going to expose my complete unfamiliarity with whatever it was and probably require revealing that I was buying for someone else, I finally gave up, handed the boys their money back and wished them better luck on the next person.
