Looks like this is as far as the cadaver is getting till sometime in summer at soonest. He's going to storage in a day or two, once I get my art supplies packed together.
It's already the 14th and I still haven't got housing arranged, which is making me very very very nervous. Housing is what has ruined every single attempt I've ever made to go live anywhere, since I was 18 -- that's 11 years longer of having to endure living in Santa Fe (a place I hate SO MUCH) because no one is cooperative when you need to arrange a place without seeing it. I think that lady in New Orleans last year who wouldn't even tell me the address of the place she was supposedly renting out, because she thought I was trying to scam her, was my 'favorite.'
If I were rich enough to be looking at full apartments or houses I could use a real estate agent (or whatever a UK equal is called) but when you're just looking for a cheap room by the Meadows. We're already getting to the point where the availability on the stuff listed is later than I want (stuff that's not available till mid-Feb.)
One other problem is if I don't have a room arranged, it's going to get really expensive for me really fast: first of all I'll need to buy a new large suitcase, which is probably another $100 at Walmart. (I would not trust the one I have if I'm going to be hauling it between hotels and buses and down streets. It will last airport to taxi to house but that's all.) I also won't be able to take a second suitcase because I can't manage that much stuff if I need to carry it around, so that will be postage for a big box. Then the hotels or rooms themselves; I just don't think I have it in me to ever do another hostel. (The Edinburgh ones I especially recall were not good about the kitchens being open at a time when I needed them... Edinburgh 2001, that was the trip where I was falling down everywhere because I was going days at a time without eating more than a candy bar.) Only hostel I ever enjoyed was in New Orleans; their kitchen was open 24 hours and there was a constant Euro-party in the back yard.
I hope it will not lead to this, I hope the guy who has the one good room will make up his mind in my favor more quickly. Currently he's said he would make up his mind by the 25th, which would give me less than a week to come up with anything else if he decides no.
