We seem to be paying it forward here, on the whole sleeping/living at other people's houses.
My dad has a friend who he's known at least since college, who -- like everyone else in this awful Land of Entrapment -- had to move back in with his parents! (Remember, if he knew my dad in college that means the guy is probably about 60 years old.) Thing is this fellow is gay, and his parents don't seem to approve of that, so they've been treating him like some kind of addict: limiting the hours he can be in or out of the house, not allowing him 'privileges' like using the TV or the heater, locking him into his room at night and always being sure to remind him what a horrible person he is and how he should be married to a woman. So even this guy's therapist was telling him to get the hell out of that place. My dad somehow learned of the trouble and, for the time being, is letting the fellow sleep on an air mattress in the office here at the house. So that's cool; though I worry a little about whether the guy is a light sleeper, what with me clunking around in the next room all night long.
