I have made it to Edinburgh after much effort. I got my bus from Paris (which did indeed use the Chunnel -- the bus gets loaded up like cargo onto the train and is carried across) which left about 45 minutes late. I met a British guy (who was also going to Edinburgh, though by different travel arrangements than mine; I invited him to spend some more time with me once he's here) and two Americans, one of whom was from Los Angeles, and all of us about the same age. We were sitting in a little triangle sort of formation talking the whole time. I ended up arriving about 10 minutes too late for my train; had to spend the night in St. Pancras in the Costa cafe there, but ended up meeting another interesting guy there and talking all night. So I've got two friends in the UK now! Both of whom I'll probably see again this trip.
I need to sadly do some clothes shopping in Edinburgh since it's so cold here and all I brought was summer clothing, and I have to get an umbrella. Otherwise, stuff I want to do because I either loved it last time or else regret not having done it last time:
eat a deep fried Mars bar
go to the fudge shop on High Street
Greyfriar's cemetery
maybe other cemeteries too
eat at the Mexican restaurant if it's still here - I am told Mexican food is awful here but I still want to see what they do
visit The Blind Poet pub (the place that introduced me to hard cider when I was 18)
maybe go back to World's End too, that's the place where I first tried haggis and found it pretty much tastes like meatloaf
Go to the museum of children's toys where they have that random Sweeney Todd reenactment device from the 30s (I'll post pictures if I do this, to better demonstrate what I am talking about.)
maybe see the Knox house again
Most people go to the castle, too, but for some odd reason I just can't seem to care about that castle.
