Just had a birthday -- went to Musso and Frank's in Los Angeles. It was like stepping back in time 70 years. The waiters all wear tuxedos and are kind of snooty (my dad was trying to get one guy to lighten up, finally started talking to him in Spanish and that did the trick.) The website only posts a partial menu, the real one is full of really old style food. Potatoes are their own section of the menu. We ordered Welsh Rarebit and Diplomat Pudding.

Also went to the Getty museum and saw interesting things. I was happy to see a couple Gainsborough's in the mix. I seem to be getting pretty good at identifying certain artists at a glance -- El Greco, Goya, Boucher, Gainsborough, Rubens, Turner were all ones I could recognize immediately from afar.
