When I had to flee my sister's house, I ended up leaving part 1 of 2 of my prescription acne medication in the refrigerator at her house, and was never able to retrieve it. Thing is, that Benzamycin is a nuisance to keep (has to stay cold) and it dries out my skin so much -- yet using my Retin-A twice a day instead of once works about 98% as well, and that stuff costs about half what the Benzamycin does (though I think I still receive $3 prescriptions through my low income health care. Luckily they don't have a limit on the kinds of medicine you can receive; if it's a prescription it's covered.)
Unfortunately (?) my sister was insistent on trying to mail the stuff back to me, (I've been reimbursing her the postage and this meant she sent a bunch of stuff by Priority mail in the same box that I didn't want shipped that way. Some of those things cost more to ship than they were worth in the first place.) and I think the medicine might have gotten too warm in the box anyway, because I decided to give it a try and use it again, but I've been breaking out awfully ever since. (I have cystic acne, means I get wonderful new scars every time I get a new pimple.)
So I think I'll be going back to just using the Retin-A. Apparently my dermatologist died while I was in Minnesota so I need to find a new one soon anyway, perhaps I can find a cheap one in Albuquerque.

I never had bad skin as a kid and after I turned 18 it became a nightmare. I get dark spots or scars when I break out as well. And I never know what's going to cause it... I can't remember the last time my skin was smooth. Even if it's break out free if you look close it's got tiny bumps like baby zits growing up!! I've never heard of cystic acne. Actually I haven't been to a doctor about it because it's awkward. But your blog has encouraged me that maybe I should. I'm just broke and not sure if it's affordable...

The tiny bumps might be congested pores, something like Retin-A deals with those too. I don't know if you've got the cystic kind of acne, but cystic effects deeper tissues than normal acne (which is why is scars so badly.)
