Excellent workout: spiral lacing yourself into (and out of) a 16th century Flemish gown and corset.
So the costume shop didn't go too badly, though I still don't completely trust Richard not to intentionally "lose" all the costumes the day of the performance. Two of the actors didn't show up, so I had to choose outfits for them in absentia and hope they will fit. (One of them I knew couldn't make it, but I don't know what became of the other fellow.)
Here's Julia in the not-historically-correct-but-tolerable Arlecchino outfit they had there (I caught her with only one shoe):
Picking out a Mezzetino outfit for the period was a trick since Mezzetino himself isn't entirely correct to the 16th century. We were mostly working from the Callot picture (17th century) as the basis. Here's what we got:
And I picked out some ensembles for Pantalone and Flavio, both of which have tights and codpieces. Oddly, the costume shop carries codpieces, but they're so rarely requested that it seems they don't actually know how to attach them to the outfits. So we'll have to get that figured out.
Our first real rehearsal is to be on Tuesday.

grayness:
With codpieces, pins or staples are probably not the way to go...
aristophanes:
Oddly, pins are what the fellow at the shop was recommending. But, we'll see -- I'm supposed to call them back on Monday, possibly to consult over this very problem.
