I'm not sure if I posted here the details of the journey to California over Thanksgiving -- basically the family decided we should go out and see grandma since she's 93 and not getting any more healthy. She's getting a little batty, especially in the afternoons it seems -- like twice she forgot I had been staying there for days and was pleasantly surprised that I'd dropped in to visit, except that I'd been visiting already and she just didn't remember.
Anyway, my dad started getting sick with some kind of cold on the way home, and he wound up passing it to my mom and I. It's a bad one, too -- nothing seems to make much of an impact against it. The worst of it is the coughing, and twice now I've lost my voice from so much coughing. Plus the cold keeps wavering -- one day you feel like you're getting better, the next it's worse than before. My hot bath remedy, Dayquil and Nyquil, garlic and oregano tea, cider vinegar, neti pots, steam, camphor, vapo-rub, ricola, decongestants, vitamin C, soup, honey -- all fail to make significant impact. You just get to sit, coughing and gasping for air between coughs. My dad does at least appear to be getting better so maybe there's some hope.
I do hope at least I'll be in good shape by Friday for my Gay Purr-ee party (Gay Purr-ee is a somewhat obscure old animated film by Chuck Jones, with Judy Garland and Robert Goulet offering voice talent. I'm having a party where we'll watch it and eat French food.) I need to locate some foie gras or pte for the party, neither of which have I ever eaten before. One of the invitees asked if he could bring anything and so I suggested he could bring champagne, and it sounds like he's threatening to bring the most disgusting champagne he can find.

I recognize that cold. I have it as does one of the people who works for me. I have avoided the laryngitis thus far, but my voice is operating at a low enough frequency to be mistaken for seismic activity. So it goes.
