My older sister, her two kids (8 and 15) and her boyfriend came out for a few days to visit. The boyfriend in particular we weren't sure what to make of, as the family previously only knew him via his Facebook postings, and those have a tendency to make him seem like he suffers from borderline retardation and/or is some kind of wifebeating hick. In person he comes off much better, and only said a couple stupid things while he was here. My parents seem to think the younger kid is getting kind of spoiled. The older kid, at 15, is sort of antisocial and refused to do much of anything including bathe, but I remember being so myself at that age, minus the bathing issue. The visit was nice, overall -- not too long or eventful. Julia, my younger sister, is the more popular aunt with the kids since she'll actually play with them, so maybe she got a different impression of it. Mostly with me, the kids are just bewildered by why I wear high heels at all times and inquire often about that.
Ended up getting to see a performance of The Love of Three Oranges while they were visiting -- I got free tickets due to my commedia dell'arte connections, though in fact most of the commedia elements of the show were removed or downplayed or simply not correctly done. Took the 8 year old along and she liked it -- the older girl refused to come.
In other news (good?) Amazon seems to have finally discounted one of my books -- hopefully that will make some sales!
