Good news -- on Tuesday I am arranged to take a look at the opera's costume stock! That's not quite the same yet as getting the costumes, but it's a step in the right direction -- if they're willing to deal with me at all it means they're more likely to lend the goods. Thanks to my dad for making the winning phonecall.
The insurance thing may still be a problem but it was apparently discussed somewhat during the call. It sounds like my best shot is maybe to get Warehouse 21 to agree to 'sponsor' the insurance since they already have some kind of contract with the opera, and as long as nothing happens to the outfits they wouldn't really be out any money, they'd just be someone with adequate securities to be able to get the goods lent.
Meanwhile my friend who keeps getting sick with rather lame excuses to go to the emergency room got some sort of karmic payback -- a friend he'd hoped particularly to see while in town cancelled due to getting "the sniffles" thus causing him a bit of annoyance. I did finally get out to dinner with him though, and we had a pretty amusing night. It was his birthday so I got him a card and some makeup samples (he's a transvestite.)
