At this point with my movie, nothing good happening is the same as something bad happening. I still have no costumes. Last night I went and tried my luck contacting a reenactment group in Arizona offering anyone with their own correct-period outfits who wants to be in the film and come up and be so, but unfortunately even they don't seem to have much of the right kind of costume. I have a suspicion there are a couple of low-quality "Colonial" patterns floating around meant to be for Halloween costumes and that everyone is making their clothing based on those, resulting in the amazing numbers of bizarre problems with the look of the outfits. (Including that no one anymore is familiar with the concept of making clothes to fit instead of making them in some standard size -- so many passable 'Marie Antoinette" dresses are ruined by how wrinkled and baggy they look on someone who didn't sew the seams in enough!)
I'm going ahead and arranging auditions for next week, since maybe actually finding if I have any decent actors will help determine if I should give up or not. At the moment I sure do not have any ideal women for the Aristocratic Lady role -- she was supposed to be in her 40s or 50s, so I put down "35+" as the age range thinking someone as young as late thirties might be able to pass for a bit older. Instead it's just calling up girls younger than I am trying to get the role (I think one girl was even in her teens.) And they all boast of how they can do a BRITISH accent which isn't what I even need. The boys are a bit less horrible -- I got one guy who was approximately 90 years old inquiring about the role of the "Young Buffoon" and one guy who seems to be Indian asking about playing an English nobleman, but other than that the selection isn't too bad. One guy has a really great resume, I'd almost cast him based on that alone, but we'll see -- maybe one of the high school kids who hasn't had a chance to do much yet will show some skill.
