I booked ticket to New Orleans for the 13th. I am not happy about this and wish I had not done it -- so far I can't find a suitable place to stay and everyone who said they'd "help" just knows all the same things I do like to use craigslist to search for places. I also get conflicting accounts of what is or isn't...

Have you talked to someone from there?
Like Wit, if she is on.
aristophanes:
Yeah, everybody from there that I consult with just confuses things more as there seems to be no agreement between folks on what is a good or bad part of town or not, and they don't really know anything about how to find a place that's particularly special or appropriate. I can't *really* afford anything more than $25 a day. Being bogged down by this stupid medicine I have that needs to stay refrigerated does not make things any easier.

But as the whole point of the trip was to scout it to move there -- and it's quite plain now that that isn't going to be possible -- it doesn't seem like there's much point in going at all.

Bought a bikini because that's the only kind of swimsuit you can get for $20 around LA (and even that was a challenge. These things retail for over $50 most of the time.) It looks awful on me, but I want to swim.

I had hoped to move on to New Orleans after all this but housing isn't cooperating.

Meanwhile a lot of grandma's stuff...

Interesting day today... there was an eclipse of the sun this afternoon, so went out with parents to see it in downtown Hermosa. Beforehand we decided to eat at a restaurant where I may have had the worst waitress/bartender ever serve us. She was blonde and tan and thin and had large breasts, which is probably why she got the job. She would forget our...

Just had a birthday -- went to Musso and Frank's in Los Angeles. It was like stepping back in time 70 years. The waiters all wear tuxedos and are kind of snooty (my dad was trying to get one guy to lighten up, finally started talking to him in Spanish and that did the trick.) The website only posts a partial menu, the real one...

Okay...I'm in Los Angeles for the time being, for dead-grandma related stuff, but this is way better than being around still-living-grandma at all. That woman is awful. I was telling my sister I should have punched her in the face before leaving so as to assure no possibility of going back to her house after this. Don't know where I can go when all's done...

Stayed with a friend in Santa Fe for about a week, that was kind of nice except he doesn't have internet which made it hard to work.

Back in Bernalillo and grandma's floor and was awakened by choking on anther insect that had decided to crawl over my face, so I am trying to figure out some way to leave immediately. There are just so...

I kind of wish I didn't always have such inappropriate thoughts when people die, about how event this will benefit me...

My grandmother (not the one I'm staying with) just died. And immediately I think with some happiness: Oh, that means we can go to California!
ihsv1683:
it is the timing that is inappropriate....not the thought
and it is impossible to control time.....

Still at grandma's, still on floor. Have completed translation of Petit Albert, though.

and sleeping on the floor would be your penance for doing so?....winksmile

Do you realize how great that blog entry is? It captures a lot in less than one line.

Noticed the other day that my sun hat is starting to get a bit shabby.

On weekend was at the Flea market and saw a lady selling custom hats I liked. She didn't have a perfect one at the Flea but suggested I go to her shop and could pick out the materials for a custom one. Price is not cheap but is reasonable for...

Don't know if it will become anything, but I was happy to get an inquiry from someone claiming to be from a Polish publishing company looking to license my Fanny Hill illustrations for a Polish edition of the book. (A bit tricky though, since this being technically homeless means I don't have most of my stuff, including the discs where the art was saved or...
