I'm in a slightly better mood today, though tired from working all weekend.
Tomorrow I get to perform my Hormone Skit in Anatomy class. Check it!
SPOILERS! (Click to view)
Hormone Skit
Supranephrine
Norepinephrine Man and Epinephrine Woman enter.
Norepinephrine Man hits the desk in front of Courtney.
NM: Do you know what just happened? You just got a big dose of us!! Motions to Norepinephrine Woman and she nods.
EW: Im Epinephrine Woman!!
NM: And Im Norepinephrine Man!
EW: And together we are
NM and EW: Supranephrine!!
EW: You may know us as your fight or flight hormones. Whenever danger strikes, we are ready to step into action at a moments notice! We are released in a variety of scenarios, whether it be exercise, hypoglycemia, distress or trauma.
NM: When needed, we are released in a ratio of 80% epinephrine to 20% norepinephrine from the Adrenal Medulla.
EW: Our synthesis is solely under the control of the CNS. When in danger, the CNS triggers the release of Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (ATCH), which activates our synthesis.
NM: Both of us have a very complicated synthesis process.
EW: The synthesis process begins with the amino acid tyrosine, which becomes DOPA, and is made in to the neurotransmitter dopamine. From there, dopamine becomes norepinephrine, and then epinephrine is made.
NM: When needed, our secretion is triggered by acetylcholine release from preganglionic synaptic nerve fibers.
EW: Our physiologic effects are set off by our binding to adrenergic receptors.
NM: But what are the signs that we are working, you ask? Well first of all, your heart will begin to contract faster and with more force.
EW: This is mostly because of me acting through beta receptors. Next, there will be a constriction of blood vessels in your skin and gut.
NM: That is to make sure that there is plenty of blood going to yours muscles for quick reflexes, and lungs for easy breathing.
EW: We burn stored up fat in order to keep a steady supply of energy to all your cells. I also suppress things that are not immediately necessary to your survival, like your immune system.
NM: And Epinephrine Woman raises the rate at which that energy is used by making cells consume oxygen faster and produce more heat.
EW: The most obvious sign that we are working to an observer is that your pupils will dilate to an enormous size in order to catch every bit of light you can.
NM: We have plenty of uses beyond helping you to survive in a pinch.
EW: Im used in inhalers to open passages in the lungs so that asthma suffers dont suffocate.
NM: And when you dont have enough of me in your system, you may not be able to concentrate. Its called Attention Deficit Disorder. You may also have insatiable hunger, carbohydrate cravings, and be terribly exhausted.
EW: Or, it can make you very sad if you dont have enough of one of us. Its called depression.
NM: But no need to fret, there are pills of me you can take to you make you calm and happy, the way you should be.
EW: And if your having a serious allergic reaction, just inject a good dose of me into your thigh, i quickly reduce histamine levels, and you'll be breathing easy once again.
NW: She also is helpful if you're in cardiac arrest. A dose injected straight into the heart will have you back on your feet in no time!
EW: Too much of me can be cause by a tumor on your adrenal gland, called a Pheochromocytoma Haveing one of these can cause you to be very unhappy. It can cause you to have a high heart rate, palpitations ,irritability, insomnia, increased appetite, increased blood pressure, and can make you unable to relax and intolerant to heat and sweating.
NM: And high levels of me can cause you to have anxiety and insomnia!
EW: Also, something you caffeine addicts may not know about me. When you consume caffeine, there is increased nerve activity in your brain. Your pituitary gland thinks this means that there is a reason for emergency, and sends hormones telling the adrenal gland to make more of me! You can thank me for that good boost of energy after your morning cup of coffee!
NM: But we wary, too much of her is NOT a good thing. She's the reason that too much caffeine gives you the jitters.
EW: So remember, when youre in a bind
NM: Youre not alone
EW and NM: Have fear! And well be there!
My partner Norman, is supposed to make masks and capes with out molecular structures on the back! haha, we're such dorks!
Everyone should give toBacii's tattoo fund. She was in an aweful accident and needs monies bad!! And she's so cute and sweet, so be a dear and give her some money. I mean, come on , I'm poor and I gave her $10! And I bought some stuff on her SG sales thread!
Not too much to talk about. I got my cap and gown Friday. They're hideous, the gown totally eats me , and the hat makes my huge ears stick out! Oh well, at least it means I'm close to getting the hell out of high school. ![tongue](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/emoticons/tongue.55c59c6cdad7.gif)
I still can't decide when to get my tattoo. I want seam tattoo's similar to Stormy's, except I want pink bows. I also want nipple piercings, an industrial and a lip ring, i just can't decide which to do first! I'm thinking the lip ring... but I dunno.
So.. here's a picture of me and my cat for good measure.

I actually don't look uber flushed out in this picture. Why is the flash on my camera so bright? Honestly, it flashes twice,WTF? Is that really necessary? I have a polaroid i533 if anyone has suggestions. I also can't figure out what setting to do in order to make it possible for me to change the exposure time. Blargh, I suck at digital photography!
And here's another picture of my kitty.

Does anyone know why I named her Charlie? You win a prize if you guess correctly!
P.S. Does anyone have an opinion on whether I would look good with bangs or not, or what kind of bangs would flatter me? I have a big forehead, and I'm basically just looking for a change. i haven't had bangs since I was 10!
