EA president windbag
This article just ticks me off. I don't know why. Maybe because I get annoyed when the game industry tries its hardest to dumb down everything and make casual gamers feel at home.
Fuck casual gamers and their 8 million versions of Madden. They can all go screw. If reading and actually following a storyline is too hard for you then you are probably an idiot. It makes me almost as mad as the people who say "oh, games are fun, I like Pac Man." This doesn't make you sound retro or hip, it makes you sound like someone who is so out of the loop its sad.
Sorry...this has just put a bee in my bonnet. Yes, i have a tendency to whine and complain during a few games, even throw the occasional temper tantrum, but I don't blame the industry, or that the game is too hard, I blame myself for making foolish mistakes in my strategy.
This world should not be dumbed down for the lazy. Whether its tv, videogames, or news broadcasts.
Bah. I need to go take a walk or something!
(and seriously...the president of EA has the nerve to complain about video games looking alike every yea! I'm sorry...how many Sims and Madden games have you put out so far???)

The limitations, I thought, forced game makers to be more creative. You have 16 colors to work with, your soundtrack can only be made using midi, and that's it. You'd better have a good story line and be able to hold people's interest through it. Once technology came in, I really think game makers are relying on it more and more to make up for their creative shortcomings.
Every time I find myself browsing through the new video games to see if something catches my eye, everything looks like the same game but with different characters. Sure there's a handful of shining stars, but nothing really jumps at me. Yes, I can appreciate the hard work that went into building the game, yes I can appreciate that it really takes skill to be able to complete the game, but I kind of feel that a lot of them are using the mind blowing graphics to make up for lack of content.
Guitar Hero and that tennis game I got to play a few weeks ago on the Wii, I thought were brilliant. They're dirt simple games to understand and I don't have to keep referring to the instructions to figure out how to play it, but its challenging to get good at them. And the fun factor is completely there. If I'm playing a video game, I'm usually taking a break from thinking hard. I agree that America, in general, is getting dumbed down in every sense, but not everything has to be mentally challenging.
But yes, I do think its really ironic that the guy from EA games is the person who said that. I'm not into sports, but isn't all the packing on their sports titles identical?
What are you knitting?
I love guitar hero, fun times!
