as i was walking up the long inclined sidewalk back to work today, watching the water sheet down toward me, trying to fold over itself, i was lost in thought. i was reflecting about how yesterday i had a hunch that it was a fluke. turns out i was right, and the sudden joy was premature, but not undeserved. evil is pretty unrelenting, as it doesn't have anything to lose.
then i saw someone had dropped a pumpkin onto the ground from a few stories up in the apartment complex, and i started surfing down the sidewalk on some of the larger pieces, until they broke into smaller pieces.
when i got back from lunch, the girls had gotten me food. bag of sunchips from one (mmm), homemade naan and chicken tikka masala from the other (droool). there really is no faster way to my heart than my stomach.
there is nothing like winter to bring out the whiny little kid that looks past all of the fortune to see the tiny glimmer of rejection peeking out from under the leaves.
self respect is for chumps.
