Ok, I"m not getting DSL...yet.
The installers said they would show up between 10-2pm...they show up at three. One of them takes a quick look-thru around the house, and goes back outside to his partner and my dad. Anytime anyone else comes to install or repair things around the house, my dad always keeps them company. He's very cordial about it, and I suspect he just misses being on a worksite; the fact that he isn't as physically capable as he once was depresses him a lot, and that's another reason I'm here to take care of him. Anyway, it turns out we'd need to install a second satellite dish, would require setting a second pole in concrete foundation. The Direcway people seemed to have forgotten to inform me of this, as it costs extra.
The good news is that the guy's mom owns a Satellite DSL company that is premeiring in a few weeks which uses a smaller dish, costs less, runs faster, allows twitch gaming (i.e. WoW, Xbox live, etc) and will do tech support for VPN. We're first on their list for the area, and I think it would be definitely worth suffering the dial-up from hell for a few more weeks to get all that.
I was really looking forward to having it today though, since the internet is about all there is to do around here, and the dial-up severely limits what I can do. Damn.
