No, I cannot stop dreaming.
There is a well haunted by the ghosts of three children. Two of the ghosts are terrifying and evil but the third is sad and shy and innocent. I determine that if I give this nicer ghost-child the three "best toys ever" then she will feel so loved that she will be strong enough to overpower her sisters and stop them from harming people.
The three best toys are:
1. A doll that is animate and can take on any appearance and costume you desire. You can also be the doll, as in inhabit its body (a dangerous thing to give to a ghost but perhaps it's necessary).
2. A giant dog that talks and can be your friend and you can ride on it (yes, like Clifford but for obvious reasons it's best if such a creature is a toy).
3. A strange little box that is like a Swiss army knife but can do almost anything.
Somehow I happen to have all of these things on hand and I slip them into the dark hole of the well (I'm not sure how the dog would fit but I guess it can shrink).
And I wake, and I'm all scrunched up in the dark with a pain in my side, and I realize that no matter how much I think I like being alone it means there is no one to keep the nightmares and spirits away. But maybe it's better because I will finally acknowledge them and deal with them myself.
___ comes home in the wee hours, but of course she is now just like a ghost of someone who I once knew, haunting the space I live in, and perhaps that is why I dream such things.
